This season Baritone Anton Ljungqvist sings this season Pappan i Malmö Opera’s production of Winteryra and Eisenstein at Bergen National Opera.

The baritone Anton Ljungqvist sings this season Amonasro in Aida and the role of Edgar in the musical Titanic, both at the Wermland Opera. The previous season included the roles of Tonio in Pajazzo and Betto di Signa in Gianni Schicci on the same stage. Anton also appeared in the role of the Father in the newly written opera On the other side of the sea by Catharina Backman at Malmö Opera.

In 2020/21, Anton Ljungqvist sang Shaunard in a concert version of La Bohème at Gothenburg Opera, a role he performed in the spring of 2020 when the production premiered on the same stage. Anton also participated in the world premiere of Philip Glass’ opera Cirkus Days and Nights, a co-production between Malmö Opera and Cirkus Cirkör, where he sang the role of Lax M, the old poet.

Anton has previously appeared in Wermland Opera’s Trilogy, where he sang the roles of Figaro in both The Barber of Seville and The Marriage of Figaro, as well as Fernando in Fidelio. He has also played the role of Eisenstein in Läderlappen and Mr Gedge in Britten’s Albert Herring on the same stage. At Gothenburg Opera, Anton has appeared in roles as Doctor Grenvil in La Traviata, as well as Horatius and First Undertaker in Thomas Hamlet.

Anton has previously been seen in roles such as Sharpless in Madama Butterfly at Folkoperan. At the Bergen National Opera he has appeared as Dandini in Cinderella, in the role of Johan in the newly written Alt om min familie and he has participated in their production of Bernstein’s Candide. Anton has sung Zuniga in Carmen, as well as appeared in Daniel Fjellström’s One Thousand and One Nights, both at Malmö Opera and has sung the role of Collatinus in Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia at Vattnäs Konsertlada.

On the concert stage, Anton Ljungqvist sings works such as Bach’s Johannespassionen, Mozart’s Requiem and Mozart’s Coronation Mass, Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem, Fauré’s Requiem and Duruflé’s Requiem. In 2017, Anton participated as a soloist during the Berwaldhallen and Sweden’s Radio Symphony Orchestra’s Trettondagskonserts, which were broadcast on SVT. He also performed the role of Mitjuka in Boris Godunov with the Gothenburg Symphony under the direction of Kent Nagano, with concerts in the Gothenburg and Stockholm concert halls. Anton has participated in several concert tours with Wermland Opera.

Anton Ljungqvist is educated at the Academy of Opera in Stockholm, where he graduated in 2011. He has been awarded a number of scholarships, such as the Joel Berglund scholarship and the Royal Academy of Music scholarship.
